Camp Stellar:

a friendly and fun environment where kids can be kids

Children are natural creators. They grow and mature through learning and exploring the world around them. However, in our modern educational system children are constantly guided and supervised and 'exploration' is allowed within set limits and - again - following the instruction. Psychologists mention that modern children practically have no unstructured play incorporated in their daily routines. They go from school to afterschool activities where adults control them and tell them what to do. They go to a summer camp where the whole day is planned for them and they - again - follow the instructions of their supervisors. Unstructured play is the environment where children can assess their own strengths and weaknesses, hone their social skills, implement their creative ideas and learn to negotiate and solve problems and conflicts.

What we try to accomplish at our camp, is offering the kids the environment where all that is possible and the freedom to be kids. Relax and forget about the competitive world out there where you have to score marks and prove yourself. We do not encourage competition, only collaboration, honesty, kindness and compassion to oneself and others. We don't push them to succeed but rather relax and enjoy just being. We supervise and monitor them without controlling. We create our schedules together and allow enough flexibility for different interests.

As a teacher of Visual Arts and Technological Studies with over 20 years experience, I find children thrive and find their path and talents when you provide them with resources, and pretty much get out of their way on their path of exploration. Be there to provide support, but allow them to make their own decisions, make their own mistakes and learn from them. We are not about "character building". We are about enjoying life to the fullest.

I love watching things evolve, that's why my favourite things are raising children, teaching and gardening. If you share my philosophy, we will be happy to meet your children and make sure they have a most memorable time at our camp.
